Moodboard

Phase One: Discovery

Moodboard Overview

The moodboard is an exercise we use to determine specific functionality and aesthetic elements that make up the overall user experience throughout your website. We use examples from existing websites to demonstrate our vision and goals for the site and to make sure that we are on the same page moving forward.

While we draw inspiration from existing examples, we do not replicate functions or aesthetics verbatim – our focus is on creating a website tailored specifically to your needs.

Who’s involved?

  • Point person (submits)
  • Departments heads
  • Stakeholders

This discovery exercise helps us discuss functionality options, explore visual aesthetics, and gather a robust understanding of your design vision. Each screen in the moodboard will show:

  • A screenshot example of an existing website
  • A written focus of discussion for the design concept or aesthetic being presented
  • A link to the live site for reference.

We use your moodboard feedback to guide the development of the site architecture, wireframes, and visual design explorations.

  1. Invite the right people – Ensure decision makers with a stake in the brand direction are in the room for this session.
  2. Revisit your questionnaire – Refresh yourself on the goals and preferences you outlined for the project before the meeting.
  3. Think about your audience – Consider who uses your site and what impression you want it to make on them.

Before the assigned due date, review the moodboard link provided by your project manager with your team and consolidate feedback onto one document.

When providing feedback:

  • Be clear, direct, and specific – note what you like, what you don’t, and why.
  • Avoid contradictory feedback where possible – consolidate differing opinions before submitting
  • Consider how each example to relates to your audience and the impression your site needs to make
  • If questions come up, tag your project manager under the Updates tab on Monday.com

After the session, your project manager will share a Figma link. Your point person will submit the consolidated team feedback.

  1. Click the link – to open the Figma presentation in your browser.
  2. Create a free Figma account – this lets you leave comments directly on the design. Scroll through as you would a webpage; use > at the bottom center to advance slides, or R to restart.
  3. Click the speech bubble icon – in the Figma file top bar. Your cursor will change to a comment tool.
  4. Click anywhere on the design – to anchor a comment, write your feedback, and submit them with the arrow.
  5. Mark the task done – in Monday.com once all feedback has been submitted.
