Site Walk-Through

Phase One: Discovery

Site Walk-Through Overview

A site walk-through is a collaborative exercise, wherein we invite stakeholders of your project to review your current site in detail. This session establishes a shared understanding of what works, what doesn’t, and where opportunities exist- informing the Moodboard, Sitemap, and design that follow.

Who’s Involved

Depending on the type and size of organization, you may opt to have as many as 12 participants. These should be people who interact with the site often. Examples of participants may be:

  • IT
  • Department Heads / Managers
  • Customer Service
  • Anyone dealing with content updates on a day-to-day basis

Functionality: What works and should be preserved, what can be improved upon, API’s, embeds, etc.

User Experience: ADA compliance, ease of navigation

Design Preference: Are there elements of the design which you really like? Do you have examples of elements you like from other sources?

Site Architecture: How to pare down redundancy in navigation, pages which may be combined, reorganized, or deleted, etc.

Content Strategy: Is the current content up to date? How much of the content will be migrated over to the new site?

Images/ Asset Library: Do you have imagery to support the content? Will imagery need to be sourced? Do you have branding guidelines?

The site walk-through is most successful when we have engaged participants ready to share their thoughts and ideas. To that end, please:

  • Invite the appropriate people to the site walk-through.
  • Spend time identifying current pain points, and think about how you would like them to work differently.
  • Feel free to bring links to examples of things you like- whether that is an overall design element, a navigation menu, or unique functionality.
