We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the City of Albert Lea’s newly redesigned website, created in partnership with Planeteria Media. The new site provides a modern, mobile-friendly experience that makes it easier for residents, visitors, and businesses to connect with the City.

About the City of Albert Lea

Located in Freeborn County in south-central Minnesota, Albert Lea is a community of 18,500 built around a chain of lakes and home to the state’s largest historic downtown. Known as the first Blue Zones certified community in the U.S., the City prioritizes health, safety, and quality of life. With a diverse economy, vibrant park system, and growing population, Albert Lea needed a website that reflects its vitality and accessibility.

Project Goals

The City sought to:

  • Simplify website navigation and menu structure for easier information access.

  • Engage residents in decisions, programs, and events.

  • Recruit employees and volunteers through improved visibility.

  • Showcase Albert Lea to potential residents, visitors, and businesses.

Planeteria’s Solution

Planeteria worked closely with City staff to reorganize and streamline 300+ webpages into a modern, mobile-optimized structure. The new design reflects the City’s updated branding, ensures ADA accessibility, and introduces templates that make content management more efficient.

Key Features & Functionality

  • New menu structure: Clear pathways for residents, visitors, and businesses.

  • Mobile optimization: Over 60% of users access the site via mobile devices.

  • ADA compliance: Accessible for users of all abilities and those with limited English skills.

  • Updated branding: Consistent design aligned with the City’s refreshed logo.

  • Training & empowerment: City staff received hands-on training to maintain and grow the site.

Project Highlights

One of the most impactful improvements is the streamlined navigation, making it significantly easier for residents to find critical information like meeting agendas, minutes, and community events. By eliminating outdated pages and adding new content areas, the site positions Albert Lea as a transparent, welcoming, and future-focused community.

Looking Ahead

Planeteria will continue to support Albert Lea with hosting, training, and maintenance to ensure the website evolves with the community’s needs. This launch is not just a redesign—it’s a digital foundation for the City’s next chapter of growth and engagement.
