Edwards Aquifer Authority has launched a redesigned website to better serve residents, researchers, educators, policymakers, and the media with fast, intuitive access to aquifer data, programs, and services—all on a secure, mobile-first platform. The new experience modernizes navigation, improves search and wayfinding, and raises the bar for accessibility and performance across devices.

About the Client

The Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) is a regional water management agency empowered to manage, enhance, and protect the Edwards Aquifer—one of the nation’s most prolific groundwater resources. Governed by an elected board, EAA provides science, policy, and public education that safeguard water quality and reliability for communities, businesses, and ecosystems throughout South Central Texas. Its mission spans monitoring, conservation, permitting, and outreach to ensure long-term aquifer sustainability.

Project Goals

• Establish EAA online as the principal, trusted authority on Edwards Aquifer information, with clear messaging and brand integrity across the site.

• Build a clean, welcoming, and accessible user experience with improved information architecture, robust search, and multiple pathways to answers.

• Serve diverse audiences—public, educators, researchers, policymakers, media, and job-seekers—through mobile-optimized design and inclusive content.

• Reduce maintenance overhead by consolidating tools and limiting third-party dependencies while strengthening security and performance.

Planeteria’s Solution

Planeteria delivered a flexible WordPress build using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF Pro) for structured content and staff-friendly editing, deployed within EAA’s AWS environment for reliability and control. The design system supports 20+ unique templates, componentized layouts, and WCAG AA accessibility. We streamlined integrations, limited plugins, and implemented a pragmatic search and alerts framework. EAA stakeholders received training, documentation, and a defined post-launch support window covering performance, break/fix, and enhancements, with ongoing hourly support available thereafter.

• Power BI visualizations retained and restyled, with recommendations to improve clarity, interactivity, and page context.

• Legistar board & committee calendar linked and contextually integrated for agendas, minutes, videos, and meeting details.

• ArcGIS/ESRI map experiences referenced or embedded to keep spatial data close to related content.

• Custom alerts tool for multi-message notifications with scheduling and dismiss controls.

• Centralized Resource Center with filters, tags, and download/URL support for easy content discovery.

By consolidating third-party tools where practical, refining navigation, and elevating accessibility, the site speeds path-to-information for every audience while reducing operational overhead for staff.
