Siskiyou Transportation Agency Launches Rider-Focused STAGE Website

A desktop computer displays a public transit website with route planning options. Office supplies, a cup, and a plant are on the desk in front of the monitor.

On August 13, 2026, Siskiyou Transportation Agency launched a new website for Siskiyou Transit and General Express (STAGE), giving riders a dedicated digital home for transit information across Siskiyou County. The modern WordPress site makes it easier to find routes, schedules, fares, rider resources, service updates, and accessibility information from any device.

About the Client

Siskiyou Transit and General Express (STAGE) is the public transportation system serving Siskiyou County and is operated by the Siskiyou Transportation Agency. In a rural, mountainous region where communities can be separated by significant travel distances, STAGE connects residents and visitors to jobs, education, healthcare, shopping, and essential services. Its network serves communities including Yreka, Weed, Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir, Etna, Fort Jones, Montague, Happy Camp, and surrounding unincorporated areas, making clear, reliable rider information especially important.

Project Goals

  • Create a dedicated, rider-centered digital destination. STAGE information had previously lived within the broader Siskiyou County website. The redesign needed to establish a standalone transit presence where passengers could quickly reach the information they use most—routes, schedules, fares, service updates, rider policies, and contact resources—without navigating unrelated county content.
  • Make trip planning and service information easier to use. In a large rural service area, riders need dependable access to route details before and during a trip. The project prioritized clear schedules, interactive route information, service spans, stop details, regional transit connections, and alerts so passengers could make informed travel decisions with fewer steps.
  • Expand access to online rider services. Beyond publishing information, the new site needed to support meaningful self-service tools, including service requests, route deviation requests, reduced-fare and ADA-related resources, transit partner connections, and other forms that help riders complete common tasks without relying solely on phone or office assistance.
  • Build for accessibility, mobile use, and long-term agency management. The RFP called for WCAG Level AA standards and a responsive experience across phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Just as important, staff needed a manageable platform they could update over time, supported by training, hosting, and ongoing maintenance after launch.

Planeteria’s Solution

Planeteria designed and developed the new STAGE website in WordPress, creating a flexible platform for both riders and agency staff. The experience organizes high-demand transit information around clear rider tasks, with responsive layouts for mobile access and accessible design patterns aligned with the project’s WCAG Level AA requirements. The site also gives STAGE a dedicated publishing platform for schedules, news, meetings, procurement information, forms, and service updates, backed by ongoing hosting and maintenance.

Key Features & Functionality

  • Interactive route and schedule pages organize service spans, stop-by-stop times, direction changes, and downloadable maps for six STAGE routes.
  • A real-time transit map gives riders a visual way to understand service and monitor route information while planning travel.
  • Route-specific rider alerts let passengers subscribe for email updates about service changes affecting the routes they use most.
  • An integrated trip-planning experience helps riders identify the best route and access detailed instructions before starting their journey.
  • Online service and route-deviation requests give riders a direct digital channel for mobility needs and special routing requests.
  • ADA information and an online paratransit application make eligibility guidance and the application process easier to access remotely.
  • Fare and pass information brings current pricing, discount details, ticket-purchase guidance, and rider policies together in one location.
  • Transit partner, meetings, procurement, news, and events sections support regional connections while expanding STAGE’s broader public-information role.

Project Highlights

One of the biggest shifts is that STAGE now has a digital presence built specifically around transit rather than a page within the larger County website. Riders can move from route discovery to detailed stop schedules, view a real-time map, sign up for route alerts, review fares, access ADA information, and connect with regional transit partners in one experience. For a geographically dispersed rural county, that consolidation makes essential mobility information easier to reach wherever a trip begins.

Looking Ahead

The new website gives STAGE a stronger foundation for digital rider communication as services, schedules, and community needs evolve. With WordPress, agency staff can keep information current while Planeteria provides ongoing hosting and maintenance support. Over time, the platform can continue to serve as a reliable digital front door for riders across Siskiyou County, helping people plan trips, understand services, and stay informed.
